JEANNE BAILEY, has worked in the drinking water community for more than 20 years, with experience in both water quality laboratory and operations. She currently is the Public Affairs Officer for the Fairfax County Water Authority (Fairfax Water). Fairfax Water is the largest drinking water utility in Virginia, serving 1.5 million people in the Washington Metropolitan area. Jeanne recently worked for the Government Affairs Office of the American Water Works Association in the area of regulatory development. She has broad knowledge of water quality and utility operations. She received her BA from George Mason University and holds a Virginia Class 3 Waterworks Operators license.

ANN and LORREN GARSON, began traveling internationally in 1978. But since Lorrin retired from the American Chemical Society and Ann from the Fairfax County Public Schools, they have been able to take longer trips and go on more unique itineraries. They have visited all seven continents and 85 countries. In their travels, they often go independent or “off the beaten path.” They have given travel presentations on Antarctica, Africa, and Asia to various audiences.

SUSAN INSKEEP GRAY, degrees in Journalism and Political Science, West Virginia University; MA in American History, George Mason University; formerly employed in various media positions and as a Museum Specialist for the National Park Service; currently Curator/Visitor Services Manager at the Fairfax Museum, Office of Historic Resources.

Professor TOM HARDY, AB in English, Georgetown Univ.; MA in English, Univ. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; second MA in Art History, George Washington Univ.; native Washingtonian; NVCC instructor in English, Art History and Humanities for 35 years.

ROBERT HULEY, BA and MA in Electrical Engineering, Cornell University; retired from the Office of Personnel Management as Deputy Chief Information Officer; retired US Army Colonel with 31 years of active and reserve service including tours in Viet Nam and Germany as a Medevac helicopter pilot; joined LLI in 2004 and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and as Vice President, Bridge Special Interest Group Coordinator, and is a member of the Study Travel and Trip Committees.

LORIA KING, BA, Sarah Lawrence College; MFA, Columbia University; currently a Marketing Consultant in the Northeast Regional Corporate Offices of Verizon Wireless which represents Washington, Baltimore, and Virginia.

MARY LIPSEY, BA in History and Sociology; MA in Education; retired seventh grade American History teacher; co-author of Braddock’s True Gold; Braddock District Representative to Fairfax County History Commission; avid interest in first ladies and local history.

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

BRAD BERGER, BA in European History; MA in American Colonial History; served in the Federal Republic of Germany as a Security Specialist for the U.S. Air Force; interned for the NPS at Harpers Ferry; currently serving as a Park Ranger at the National Mall & Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C.

JENNIFER EPSTEIN and MICHAEL KELLY, have directed their mutual love of history and education toward college courses of study as well as careers with the National Park Service. In addition to interpreting the National Mall ’s notable cultural resources, Ranger Epstein spearheads the park’s extensive education and outreach programs, while Ranger Kelly manages several park editing, publication and signage projects. Prior to Washington, D.C., Rangers Epstein and Kelly worked at several National Park Service sites. Ranger Epstein worked at the Adams National Historic Site, Colonial National Historical Park, Gettysburg National Military Park, and the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Ranger Kelly served at the Eisenhower National Historic Site and Gettysburg National Military Park.

JASON MARTZ, began his National Park Service career as an intern at the Gettysburg National Military Park and continued on to President ’s Park (The White House), Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, and Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site before joining National Mall and Memorial Parks where he has coordinated the park’s bike tour program since 2003 and currently orchestrates all park advertising and is active in many outreach programs.

RICHARD RISK, graduate, Univ. of Missouri; retired, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; founding member of LLI; has taught a variety of LLI courses.

PHIL RUNGE, has been working with computers for about 40 years. His serious computing on a PC began about 15 years ago. He set up and operated several electronic bulletin board systems and moved to the Internet as the World Wide Web was able to replace BBSs effectively. Phil has a wealth of experience with all facets of Microsoft Office.

SIDNEY SACHS, BS, Industrial Engineering; MA, Statistics, Univ. of Illinois; retired Mathematical Statistician, US Army Research Institute; has been Web Master for 15 years for various nonprofit organizations, including LLI; currently volunteers for the US Holocaust Museum to computerize data bases.

KEITH TOMLINSON, Manager, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens; Fellow, Biological Sciences, Washington D.C. Academy of Sciences; previously, Education Specialist in Natural Science at Bishop Museum, Honolulu; studied botanical gardens in the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific; wrote several popular and technical articles dealing with conservation, environmental education and plant diversity; worked as a Natural Science Consultant on several books, including the Smithsonian Institution ’s Guide to Natural America; Study Tour Leader, Natural History, Smithsonian Associates.
